The Jura is one of the rare French regions where gastronomy is genuinely a reason to travel. Cave-aged Comté, Vin Jaune with notes of walnuts and curry, Jura cream-based dishes, mountain charcuterie — every meal is an experience. From Lons, the great wine addresses are within an hour's drive. And the Saturday morning market is just steps from your apartment.
See & do
Arbois and its wine cellars
~40 km from Lons. Capital of Jura wines and Pasteur's city. Estates and cellars to visit, gastronomic restaurants. Cellar opening hours: check per estate and season.
Château-Chalon and Vin Jaune
Perched village, among France's most beautiful, renowned for its exceptional Vin Jaune. Allow approximately 25 km from Lons-le-Saunier. Estate visits usually by appointment.
Comté cellars
Several affineurs offer cellar visits and tastings in the Jura. Comté is produced locally and aged for several months. Sites and hours: check by season.
Lons-le-Saunier Saturday market
Saturday morning market in the town centre: local producers, Jura cheeses, charcuterie, wines. A must-do way to start the weekend.
Dining under the Arcades
The rue du Commerce and the Arcades offer several addresses for Jura cuisine: Bresse poultry, lake fish, seasonal morels and hazelnuts. Ask us for recommendations.
Seasonal gastronomy
Morels in spring, wild mushrooms in autumn, Vin de Paille in winter — Jura cuisine evolves magnificently with the seasons.
In bad weather
A cellar day: estate and Comté affineur visits are perfect rainy-day activities. Follow with a gastronomic lunch under the Arcades in Lons.
