The Saline Royale of Arc-et-Senans is an 18th-century neoclassical masterpiece listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux as an ideal industrial city, it now hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions, concerts and international artist residencies.

- Car recommended. Free parking on site. Besançon is about 15 km from the Saline and accessible by train from Lons — then taxi or shuttle.

- Check the exhibitions and concerts programme before visiting — some periods are particularly rich. Paid admission.
